The name Pythiania is a portmanteau made of Pythia and the Shwahili word nia (intention - purpose - mind). Pythia was the high priest of the Apollo temple in Delphi, also known as the oracle of Delphi. The world of compliance and surveillance is full of false positives and ambiguous regulation, so many of us would welcome a true oracle navigating regulatory risk. At the heart of an oracle is the process of communication, an exchange between sender and recipient. By mastering communication, gathering insight and having an integrous ’nia’ we shape the future. The people below work on a future that we believe is a better place to be.

Carl-Frederik Scharffenorth

CEO of Pythiania AG

Carl-Frederik (aka Calle) is the CEO and founder of Pythiania AG. He holds a MSc in economics from the University of Bonn, the Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF) and is a certified exchange trader. He has more than two decades of professional experience in capital market regulation and trade surveillance. He has a deep technical understanding and if time allows coding makes him still happy. Before Pythiania he ran his own consultancy, which proved to him that by just consulting others the core inefficiencies of our current regulatory and technical setup won’t be overcome. Before that he was Vice President Trading Surveillance at Deutsche Boerse. In his role at Deutsche Boerse he was active and also led the Intermarket Surveillance Group (ISG). The experience of international cooperation and collaboration within the ISG is to him a founding principle for Pythiania. Colleagues describe him as a strategic, inspirational, driven and eccentric thinker who is well aware of the bias in human behavior and the importance of accounting for it in doing business.
